gone are the days?

Someone sent me the link to a 1969 video of Red Skelton explaining what the Pledge of Allegiance means. I embedded it below - and think about how marvelous it is that he was able to say this on television without it being censored.

And how sad is the ending thought that he has, which has turned out to have come true in many instances. The times have indeed changed and I wish we had more people like Mr. Skelton on our televisions and in the media these days.

That's a nice explanation. The other day I had a little one cross her arms around her chest, shake her head no, and stood there crying while we said the Pledge. I thought uh oh, she must be a Jehovah's Witness or her mom told her not to recite the Pledge. Nope, she was just behind in reciting the words and got embarrassed so she stopped.
Taught me a lesson!
