More Tiger

Yes, I know yesterday I said enough is enough with all this media attention directed toward Tiger Woods but here I am talking about him again today. A dear friend even sent me an e-mail voicing agreement with my blog post, saying everyone should leave him alone to deal with his problem.

I just wanted to say that I did not see his speech. I only saw a snippet, the portion that I suppose the media wanted everyone to see. I have to say that he did not look very convincing because he appeared to be reading straight off the piece of paper in front of him and looked sort of like a ventriloquist's dummy.

The newscaster said now it is up to the people to judge him and his speech.

Well let me tell you something - remember how back in grade school we had to take turns reading aloud from our story books? In elementary school we brought our chairs up to the front of the room to make a semi-circle in front of the teacher, and then each of us would read a paragraph or two or three from our "reading books." In high school English we'd take turns playing roles from various plays.

How many kids do you remember who did a convincing job of reading from the books like that? If your experience was anything like mine, which I am sure it was, you had a bunch of leaden, uncomprehending, monotone recitals of words on the page.

Tiger Woods is not a speaker, he's a golfer. Maybe if he had the ability to speak like John Edwards, he would be more convincing, right?

Now you might say, if Tiger was really sincere, he'd be speaking from the heart and not reading off a piece of paper. You may be right but you may be wrong. Who are we to judge? Tiger admitted that he did a horrible thing by cheating on his wife. You can't condone something like that but on the other hand, who are we to judge whether or not his apology was sincere?

The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7(b)

Thank goodness for DVR. Every click is 30 seconds forward. Some evenings I was hitting the thing 9 times every half hour time period because of Tiger.
