Real Chinese Food

Last night we were watching the news and then an ad for Pick Up Stix, a Chinese fast food chain, came on. I've seen their ads several times and have wondered about the locations, since I don't remember ever seeing any.

This time curiosity got the better of me so I got up and took the time and used to energy to check them out on the internet. The nearest location was in nearby Alhambra.

Julie said she has seen coupons in the newspaper for this place and there were also coupons on the website. Plus, if you join the "Dragon Club" they send you a link to a page where you can print a coupon good for $5.00 off any purchase of $10.00 or more. There is an explicit warning on that page that also tells you it may be printed only once.

I printed a couple of copies and didn't see any identifying numbers or barcodes or anything that would prevent someone from using multiple copies so I wonder just why they tell you that you will only be able to print one copy when in fact you can keep printing as many as you want as long as you don't navigate away from the page. Maybe it's like when you were little and your parents told you if you kept frowning your face would freeze up in that position and you took their word for it. Those that kept frowning and thought their parents were bluffing - well, half of them were right, I guess.

Off we went to the Pick Up Stix in Alhambra, expecting a Panda Express clone. One difference between the two is that they make your food fresh when you order it, instead of scooping it out of heated trays. Otherwise the menu items are similar but you don't get a choice of rice or chow mein or a combo of both, you get rice (white or brown).

Does it taste any different? If you like P.F. Changs, you will love Pick Up Stix. They both share the same addictive sweet and salty taste in everything. Portions are huge and come in takeout boxes to begin with so you don't even have to ask for one when you can't finish everything.

Overall I'd say it is a worthy competitor to Panda Express.

The rest of the day I spent trying to clean up the huge mess in Greg's old room. It's a little bit cleaner now but not much. Plus it was hard to do anything today because it was so crazy hot!
